Manitoba Moose close out five-game road trip with 5-3 win over the Chicago Wolves

The Moose were in Chicago to close out their five-game road trip looking to build on better play of late against a Wolves team that was sitting one point back of Manitoba when the night began.

Lineup news:

Kappo Kahkonen made his Manitoba debut. Ben Zloty comes in for Dmitry Kuzmin. And it was expected that Daniel Torgersson would return to the lineup for Mark Liwiski but instead Jaret Anderson-Dolan was a late scratch after taking warm-up.

Lines & D pairs:

Suess-Toninato-Ford
Empey-Lambert-Chibrikov
Shaw-King-AJF
Liwiski-Nikkanen-Torgersson

Lundmark – Salomonsson
Anhorn – Barteaux
Zloty – Bauer

Kahkonen

Notable:

Simon Lundmark picking corners as he opened the scoring for the Moose with his second of the season. Heck of a pass by Dominic Toninato to find Lundmark. Not sure how he saw him. Parker Ford with the other assist.

Dauphin’s own Mark Liwiski with his second of the season as he gave the Moose a 2-1 lead. Former Ice defenceman Ben Zloty got his first AHL point. Nikita Chibrikov with secondary assist. He leads team in 11 points (3G 8A) in 13 games.

Right place at the right time for C.J. Suess as he put the Moose ahead 3-2 on the power play late in the 2nd.

Dominic Toninato with a nice burst of speed creates some time and space for himself on the breakaway to give the Moose a 4-2 lead with three minutes left in the 3rd. He’s up to four goals on the season in 13 games which is ahead of last year’s 7G in 37 games.

Tyson Empey got his fourth goal of the season to seal the deal into the empty net for the Moose. He’s now got four goals in seven games for Manitoba. In his previous 84 AHL games he had four goals.

Netminder Kappo Kahkonen made 22 saves on 25 shots to win his Manitoba debut as the Moose conclude the road trip with a 5-3 win to improve to 5-8-0 and they’ve now won two of their last three games.

Multi-point game:

Dominic Toninato 1G 1A
Axel Jonsson-Fjällby 2A
