From Tom Reed of the Columbus Dispatch:

The San Jose Sharks reportedly have given several teams permission to speak to free agent defenseman Brian Campbell in advance of the July 1 signing period. The Dispatch has learned the Blue Jackets are not one of the teams. The Sharks would receive compensation if a deal was struck before then.

This obviously means that contract talks have come to a standstill between the Sharks and Campbell. While they give other teams permission to talk trade, they are just hoping to recoup some of the value they gave up for Campbell at the trade deadline.
