Latest update on Winnipeg Jets 2021 5th rounder Dmitri Rashevsky from GM Kevin Cheveldayoff

Back in the 5th round of the 2021 NHL Draft the Winnipeg Jets selected overager Dmitri Rashevsky who was a 6’1 winger playing for Dynamo in the VHL. A few weeks after the Draft, Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff had said Rashevsky had one year left on his deal in Russia and that the player was willing to come to North America and would be willing to play for the Moose as he develops.

Just under three months later Rashevsky ended up signing a one-year extension with Dynamo which would keep him in the KHL until April of 2023. That timeline was extended when he inked a two-year extension with Dynamo in February of 2023 which would run till 2025.

Rashevsky has put up some good numbers in the KHL:

2021-22: 19G 16A 35PTS in 48 games
2022-23: 19G 19A 38PTS in 67 games
2023-24: 24G 19A 43PTS in 67 games

Recently top Philadelphia prospect Matvei Michkov had “obtained permission from SKA to obtain a release from the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons of his KHL contract in order to join the Flyers. Mike McIntyre of the Free Press mentioned this phenomenon to GM Kevin Cheveldayoff this past Sunday “We’ve seen a number of Russian players this summer get out of KHL deals. You guys have a guy in Dmitri Rashevsky. Is there any update on him? Or is he committed to another year?”.

The Jets GM indicated:

“We’ve been talking with his North American agents to try to see where he is at within that realm. We had a zoom call with him and his representatives last year. We would like to try to obviously go that direction but, every situation there is literally different when it comes to that, but we’re hopeful.”

Seems likely based on that answer he will spend at least next season in the KHL and then we shall see if he’s ready to come over and challenge for a spot on the Jets roster as a 25-year old.
