Late On the Beat: Fake Twitter account, old trade rumor causes controversy and Chris Bourque headed to Penguins
Word from Boston has David Krejci just about ready to go for tomorrow’s season opener. With Kessel gone to Toronto, the Bruins will look for another standout season from their young Czech center.
Cam Ward is not bothered by the added pressure that will come with his new contract. If I was paid $30 plus million, I wouldn’t be bothered by the pressure either.
“I don’t think he came into camp vying for a job,” said Lightning coach Rick Tocchet about Matt Lashoff. The Lightning are far deeper on defense than they were last year, so Lashoff, who has little NHL experience, should not have taken anything for granted.
The Wild has placed Andy Hilbert on waivers. The team is high on him as a call-up and veteran influence on the farm, so they are hoping he goes unclaimed.
Sean Avery practiced today, but it doesn’t seem likely he’ll be ready for Game 1. How will Avery play this season with John Tortorella behind the bench from day one? I’m interested to see.
From last night: Brian Burke named Canucks players involved in a trade rumor on a Leafs broadcast that has made some people unhappy. I’m sure Burke would have preferred that be edited out…
Chris Bourque, a player who made the Caps, then was waived, has been claimed by the Penguins. I like the youngster’s game and feel like the Penguins got a nice player here for free. Good move by Ray Shero.
