Kyle Connor’s hat trick not enough as Jets fall to the Stars in season opener

Last year the Jets didn’t lose their first game until their ninth game of the season. While they lost in game 1 this year it was a heck of an ending as Stars took it 5-4.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats click here to see the results from the game via Natural Stat Trick.

Notable:

Prior to puck drop the Jets revealed their Presidents’ Trophy and Central Division banners.

Jets fans giving Jonathan Toews a massive Winnipeg cheer as he gets announced for his regular season debut. They were so loud they drowned out his announcement.

Captain Adam Lowry got a massive cheer from the Winnipeg crowd. Perhaps his cheer was aided by having the Connor McDavid of video coaches Matt Prefontaine in the background.

For the eighth straight time Kyle Connor scored in a Jets season opener. And it was vintage Connor as he found some soft ice and buried his chance.

At one point shots were 36-15 in favour of the visitors which was suboptimal says Captain Obvious.

Down 5-1 with things looking bleak the Jets somehow scored two shorthanded goals on the same penalty kill. First it was Morgan Barron with a speed burst and then Kyle Connor got his second of the game as he buried his own rebound.

Fresh off signing his contract extension Kyle Connor wasn’t done as he completed the hat trick and got the Jets within one as he ripped a shot home with 3:03 left in the 3rd.

It was too little too late as the Stars took it 5-4 and the Jets fall to 0-1-0-0.

With his first assist (of two) in the game Dylan DeMelo hit the 100 point mark in a Jets uniform.
