The Continental Hockey League (KHL) has strictly adhered to the moratorium on signing players from the clubs of the National Hockey League (NHL), which was introduced on July 15, 2008.
The NHL violated this moratorium and previous agreements when, on August 28, the Los Angeles Kings signed contracts with two players who are currently under contract with KHL clubs, Andrei Loktionov (Yaroslavl Lokomotiv) and Vyacheslav Voinov (Chelyabinsk Traktor).
Because of these violations, the KHL considers itself released from any obligations in relation to the transfer of players from NHL to KHL clubs. A meeting is scheduled for Saturday, September 6 to discuss this matter at the headquarters of the International Hockey Federation in Zurich, after which the KHL will determine its policy with regard to the transfer of players from the NHL.
Well, it is clear that the KHL is going to continue to try and sign players like they did with Alexander Radulov. More importantly, this release exhibits how the NHL and KHL are no closer to any sort of agreement.
