While the Moose have just two games to go it seemed unlikely that defenceman Josh Morrissey would be able to play for Manitoba to close out the 2015-16 season. He did not make the trip to Texas for the final two road contests of the year.
He last played on March 7th against Iowa here in Winnipeg. From my perspective it appeared that he suffered the injury at the end of the 2nd period when he got twisted up with a Wild player behind the Moose net.
Coach McCambridge had listed him as week-to-week as of March 29th although that was upgraded to day-to-day on April 4th. However Morrissey never got into any team practices this week and the team made the decision to shut him down from any game action for the rest of the 2015-16 season as he recovers from his injury. It had to be a disappointing conclusion to the season for the 2013 1st round pick as he would likely have had an extended audition with the Jets with the injuries to Mark Stuart and Tobias Enstrom.
In 57 games for Manitoba he had three goals and 19 assists for 22 points in his first full AHL season. He also played in one game with the Winnipeg Jets against the Habs back on March 5th.
While he hasn’t played since March 7th that didn’t stop the Calgary native from making a difference at Moose games.
