By this time last year the team had already cut down the training camp roster by 27 players although training camp last year began on September 18th (this season it began September 23rd).  Last season they did make their first round of cuts five days into camp although I suspect they wanted to wait for coach Maurice to return to the city from the World Cup of Hockey so he could watch a skate and talk to his coaches before announcing any.

This afternoon the team finally made their first re-assignments of the 2016-17 season.  There are as follows:

Jets Release:

The Winnipeg Jets announced they have re-assigned 17 players from training camp including the following 11 players to the Manitoba Moose:

Jake Baker
Mikhail Berdin
Axel Blomqvist
Patrice Cormier
Brandon Denham
Jiri Fronk
Jimmy Lodge
Nelson Nogier
Jamie Phillips
Peter Stoykewych
Tyson Wilson

The following five players have been released to their junior clubs:

Jansen Harkins – Prince George (WHL)
Matteo Gennaro – Calgary (WHL)
Luke Green – Saint John (QMJHL)
Jordy Stallard – Calgary (WHL)
Michael Spacek – Red Deer (WHL)

Defenceman Matt Murphy has been released from his ATO.

The Jets now have 25 forwards, 13 defencemen and four goaltenders remaining at training camp.
