The Moose were looking to end the six-game homestand against a familiar Wolves team with a split after losing on Saturday afternoon.
Lineup news:
Only two changes to today’s lineup. In net Winnipegger Isaac Poulter made his Moose debut while on the backend Dylan Anhorn drew in for Ethan Frisch.
Moose lineup:
Barlow – Zhilkin – JAD
Lambert – Yager – Fagemo
Di Giuseppe – Ford – Chibrikov
Shaw – Gustafsson – Duehr
Heinola – Clague
Phillips – Bauer
Sautner – Anhorn
Poulter
Notable:
Been awhile since Jets prospect Brayden Yager has scored but he ends that drought this afternoon and tosses the monkey off his back with this beauty snipe top corner for the Saskatoon product’s third goal of the season. Assists to Samuel Fagemo and Brad Lambert.
Nikita Chibrikov almost ended up with one of the more unique primary assists you’ll see. Colby Barlow unloads but fires it wide and then Chibrikov cannot get the rebound to go.
It’s not the first time and it won’t be the last time that Tyrel Bauer and Yanick Turcotte drop the gloves. Just tough as nails as they had a monumental tilt.
Example 1001 of Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin doing good things. Works hard along wall to get past the defender, then makes a slick move to get around another but just can’t hit fellow prospect Colby Barlow for the tap in.
An inopportune pass by Brad Lambert sends the Wolves off to the races. Manitoba had a chance to clear and didn’t get it out. Chicago tied the game.
Called a goal on the ice the Moose challenged this as being kicked in by Ryan Suzuki. Tough to give up with 1.3 seconds left in the 2nd period. Manitoba trailed Chicago 2-1 after 40.
Moose needed some puck luck and they got some as Phil Di Giuseppe tied the game just past midpoint of the 3rd. That’s his fifth of the season.
Jets prospect Nikita Chibrikov went with the Superman celebration after scoring this beauty to give the Moose a late 3rd period lead.
Wolves tied the game about a minute after the Moose took a lead with a goal I’m sure Poulter would want back.
Overtime solved nothing so the game went to a shootout. The Moose have a ton of talented Jets prospects to choose from and this afternoon each player they chose scored.
Shooter 1: Nikita Chibrikov
Shooter 2: Brayden Yager
Shooter 3: Danny Zhilkin
The Moose win 4-3 in the shootout and improve to 11-8-2 as they go 4-2-0 in the six-game homestand. They are 8-2-0 in their last ten games and sit tied for 2nd in the Central Division.
