Jets on a Deadline: Jets v. Panthers–October 31, 2011

It appears the $4 tickets and the free entry for kids under 12 in costume wasn’t enough to lure out a big crowd. (Official crowd was 11,855).

The Jets blew a two goal lead which set up an incredibly exciting 3rd period.  Florida managed to score a late power play goal to give the Panthers a 3-2 edge.  But with 49.9 seconds to go the Jets tied the game with a controversial goal, a goal initially called off by the referee as a high stick.

OT solved nothing and the game was sent to the always fun shootout.

Shooters in shootout:

Jets:
1st shooter:  Stapleton (save).  2nd shooter:  Ladd (scored).  3rd shooter:  Wellwood (scored)

Panthers:
1st shooter:  Versteeg (save).   2nd shooter:  Santorelli (save).  3rd shooter:  x.

Great game by the Jets.  Showed a lot of character tonight.  Pavelec was sensational.

Next Opponent:  They head to New York State to take on the 4 New York based teams.  Some of the IC crew (Drew, Rich and Ez) will be attending 3 of the 4 (Islanders, Devils and Rangers) games.

Here are some additional recaps:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets survive Halloween scare.

Globe and Mail:  Wellwood shows hit mettle.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets score late, win in SO.

NHL.com:  All’s Wellwood.

Miami Herald:  Panthers lose tough thriller to Jets.

Florida Sun-Sentinel:  Panther claw back, fall in shootout.

Three Stars:

1st:  Andrew Ladd

2nd:  Tomas Fleischmann

3rd:  Ondrej Pavelec
