There has been lots of talk about a possible contract extension for Jets winger Kyle Connor. Folks have been making the rounds, suggesting Connor likes Winnipeg and expect him to sign with the Jets — the only team he has played for since he was drafted by them back in 2015.
On the Ray & Dregs podcast yesterday, TSN insider Darren Dreger suggested the number will start with a 12 — as in $12 million. That would make it the richest AAV ever signed in Winnipeg. Meanwhile, on the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman said he expects Connor to become the second-highest-paid winger in the NHL.

On the 100% Hockey podcast team co-owner Mark Chipman was asked if he had any concerns about extending the Michigan product and was rather emphatic in his response.
“No. I don’t. I don’t. Kyle’s been a Winnipeg Jet for a long time. I expect he will be for a long time. He’s one of us.”.
His answer included some discussion about the changing CBA, including the line which he attributes to GM Kevin Cheveldayoff “we just like doing fair deals”. Said they have a great relationship with Connor’s agent. He ultimately characterized things as “positive” between the two sides and said “it’s just a timing thing right now”.
