Iowa Wild comeback to defeat the Manitoba Moose 4-2

The Moose had a week of practice in Winnipeg after splitting their season opening series with the Wranglers last weekend.

Lineup news:

Manitoba lost Dominic Toninato who was recalled up to the Jets this afternoon. Still no Simon Lundmark as the Jets D prospect is day-to-day after blocking a shot.

Notable:

Last time we saw Winnipeg’s Carson Lambos he was playing for the Ice in this building against Brad Lambert and the Thunderbirds in the WHL Championship. The Manitoban played in his home province for the first time ever in a regular season game as a pro.

Manitoba got off to a quick start outshooting Iowa 6-1 early in the opening period.

Moose took advantage of a 5 on 3 with Kyle Capobianco finishing off the nice tic-tac-toe play which was started by Brad Lambert, passed over by Parker Ford and then put into the back of the net by the veteran D man.

With the Moose up 1-0 to start the 2nd period I actually thought my eyes might need to be checked. When I looked at the Moose bench I saw Parker Ford in his customary 25 helmet but he was wearing a 55 jersey without a namebar. Put that into the “I’ve never seen that before” category. He would be back in his 25 by the mid point of the 2nd.

Jeffrey Viel can certainly get his teammates going and drag them into a contest.

Ford had an absolute warrior shift on a 5 on 3 PK for the Moose with two big blocks.

Sloppiness in the middle frame cost Manitoba as they ran into penalty trouble and found themselves down 2-1.

With Delia pulled the Moose got within one courtesy of Brad Lambert getting his third of the season on the 6 on 5.

However Manitoba couldn’t get that tying goal with the goalie pulled again and Iowa found the empty net to take it 4-2. That was the Wild’s first win of the season as they improve to 1-2-0 while Manitoba falls to 1-2-0.
