Interesting Poll Results

Over the last week, we have had a poll up on the site asking readers which player would lead the NHL in scoring this season.  Interestingly, 43% of readers selected Sidney Crosby, 39% of readers selected Alexander Ovechkin and only a combined 7% of voters selected Joe Thornton and Evgeni Malkin.

The results are interesting because if you look at the points totals from the past two NHL seasons, the leader in points is not Crosby or Ovechkin, but rather Thornton with 210 points accumulated.  In fact, Crosby has the least amount of points scored of the four players listed.  Sure that almost entirely because of injuries, but is that not a factor in who will tally the most points?

In the end, it appears to me that readers of Illegal Curve don’t seem too concerned that Sidney Crosby has missed 31 games over the past two seasons.  Considering I have the young phenom in two of my hockey pools, I hope the readers are right.
