Hurricanes sign Josef Melichar

The Canes continued to retool their defense Wednesday, signing defenseman Josef Melichar to a one-year, $1 million contract.

Give Jim Rutherford credit for completely revamping his defense. He added Joe Corvo at the deadline, Joni Pitkanen on Tuesday and now Josef Melichar today. While they may have gone largely unnoticed, these are strong moves by the Carolina GM.
