Hockey community steps up with $55 for 55 donating to causes that Jets centre Mark Scheifele supports

When we learned on Sunday that Mark Scheifele‘s dad Brad had passed away the night prior it was a shock. The Jets and Stars were getting set to play Game 6 of their best of seven series later that evening in Dallas.

While these two teams and their respective fanbases held a dislike for the other based on what was happening on the ice, this was obviously something that was way bigger than sports.

And kudos to folks in Texas for stepping up to make a difference. I first learned of this via my colleague Drew Mindell who put this out on twitter:

From there the $55 for 55 really seemed to spread to the greater hockey community as folks sought to do some good for Mark Scheifele while he was experiencing such tragedy. Sportsnet reported today that the True North Foundation has already received $46,000 in donations and we don’t yet have a number for KidSport Canada.

If you’d like to support either of these causes here are the links for both: True North Foundation | KidSport Canada.
