It has been an unusual situation with Nikolaj Ehlers who has missed the last 13 games for Winnipeg. He last played on October 17th and was initially seen as day-to-day (including being a game-time decision for the game against the Avs on the 19th) but which has since morphed to almost a month without the dynamic winger.
A few days ago Jets bench boss Rick Bowness gave a rather ominous answer with respect to Ehlers:
“Nothing’s off the table with Nikolaj right now. That’s a decision that other people will make. Right now as we speak we’re not there. I know I’m talking around the question but I can’t give you the definitive answer on that. I can’t.”
This led to some speculation on TSN about Ehlers.
Today this is what Rick Bowness had to say as per Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press:
Nikolaj Ehlers will have sports hernia surgery next week, per #NHLJets coach Rick Bowness. No timeline at all for return.

Bowness emphasizes that Ehlers will play again this season.
