From Michael Russo of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune:

Talking to Doug Risebrough earlier today, he indicated the Wild was close to having something “pop.”

Here is Russo’s entry from Russo’s Rants.

Russo believes it is a defenseman the Wild has traded for. With that established, I am not going to start speculating as to who the trade could be for because there are any number of defensemen that could be involved. Illegal Curve will stay on this story and post any further updates when they become available.

Update: Wild have traded for Marc-Andre Bergeron from the Ducks. (Thanks to reader dwayne roloson for the tip)

Bergeron was traded from the Islanders to the Ducks for a third round pick at the trade deadline. The compensation for his services was once again a third pick. His stay in Southern California sure didn’t last long. From the Wild’s perspective, Bergeron adds an offensive element to their defense. He is a great skater, has a good shot and has the ability to move the puck up the ice quickly. The question has always been: Can his offensive ability make up for his terrible defensive play??? Recently it has not; however, the Wild are hoping they can help turn that around.
