Getting you all caught up on day 3 of Winnipeg Jets training camp

It was an incredibly busy day down at hockey for all centre today at Jets Fan Fest as 1000s of Manitobans descended to celebrate hockey in this province. Folks stood in the rain well before the 9 AM opening of the doors in order to get a chance to see their favourite players.

Captain continues to rehab:

Jets captain Adam Lowry was skating with J.P. Vigier before the doors opened as he continues to rehab from his offseason hip surgery.

Illegal Curve Hockey Show:
Live from Fan Fest we spent two hours talking about the Jets including their Stanley Cup expectations, the depth the organization has, the Kyle Connor contract and more. We were joined by play-by-play voice Paul Edmonds and Jets Sr Host/Producer Sara Orlesky.

Scrimmage:
We were doing the Illegal Curve Hockey Show from 9-11 AM so we missed most of the scrimmage. Thanks to Mike McIntyre of the Winnipeg Free Press we get this insight into what was happened on the ice between the two teams.

First half:
“Kyle Connor opens the scoring for Team Blue, beating Connor Hellebuyck. But then Team White storms back with four unanswered on Eric Comrie: Colby Barlow, Cole Koepke, Jaret Anderson-Dolan and Brad Lambert.”

Second half:
“And back comes Team Blue, scoring three times in the second half to tie it up 4-4. Mason Shaw, Nino Niederreiter and Gabe Vilardi (with the goalie out) had the tallies.”

Shootout:
I was there for the shootout which saw a bunch of guys try to give their team the win. Only player to score was Jets prospect Danny Zhilkin who beat Connor Hellebuyck to give Team Blue a 5-4 win in the shootout.

Scrimmage Highlights:

Post-skate autographs:
Players, like Luke Schenn pictured below, stuck around for quite some time taking photos with fans or signing autographs. By the time we had left the scrimmage area, done media and were then returning to our work space (which was about 20-30 minutes) we saw Luke Schenn skating across the ice surface to the dressing room.

Up next:
Tomorrow is the first exhibition game of training camp as the Wild are in Winnipeg. Based on what head coach Scott Arniel said you can expect it to be a younger group hitting the ice. While they will be needed at least eight veterans don’t expect Jonathan Toews as the Winnipegger is expected to make his Jets debut on Tuesday night when the Oilers come to town. Puck drop is at 4 PM.

Working hard on a daily basis to provide the latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news for our readers and listeners. I also appear on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show every Saturday on our YouTube channel as well as the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show after every single Jets game. And I occasionally jump in the play-by-play booth at Canada Life to provide colour analysis during Manitoba Moose games.
