– According to Ansar Khan of MLive.com, Pavel Datsyuk is in Winnipeg with the Red Wings but he will not play tonight. Datsyuk has been out of the line-up with a groin injury. Datsyuk has five goals and six assists in 10 games this season.
– Wings defenseman Jakub Kindl will be a healthy scratch for the third game in a row.
– On Wednesday, Detroit placed forward Andrej Nestrasil on waivers and he was claimed by the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday. Nestrasil had two assists in 13 games with Detroit.
– The move to put Nestrasil waivers was made so that center Stephen Weiss could be activated off of injured reserve. Weiss has played only one game for the Wings this year and has been dealing with a groin injury. The plan is for Weiss to play a two-game conditioning stint in Grand Rapids (AHL) before he returns to the Wings line-up.
– On Wednesday the Red Wings placed Defenseman Brendan Smith on Injured Reserve with a hand infection he suffered from a fight on Tuesday night against Nick Foligno of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Smith will be out a minimum of 10 days. Due to Smith’s injury, Detroit recalled Defenseman Xavier Ouellet from Grand Rapids. Ouellet has one goal and four assists in 13 games with the Griffins this year.
– Defenseman Tobias Enstrom leads all Jets in ice time, averaging 25:13 of ice time per game, ranked 12th in the NHL.
– Defenseman Niklas Kronwall leads all Red Wings in ice time, averaging 24:21 of ice time per game, ranked 19th in the NHL.
– Winnipeg Jets forward Michael Frolik recorded his 200th career point on Tuesday night versus New Jersey.
