After giving up the opening goal for the fifth straight game the Jets came alive in the 2nd period and on the strength of the last two periods swept the season series with St. Louis and won their fifth straight game.
Mark Scheifele picked up a goal and an assist to hit 80 points becoming the first Jets 2.0 players to ever accomplish this feat. Patrik Laine’s goal slump ended as the rookie picked up two goals to give him 36 on the season. Both Scheifele (49) and Wheeler (47) are closing in on 50 assists on the season. Michael Hutchinson continues to pick up the wins as tonight was his fifth win in his last six games.
Post-game audio:
Blake Wheeler: How did he see tonight’s game? With the Jets going 5-0 against the Blues, what has been the magic? What’s going right right now for the Jets? On the offensive ability of this Jets squad.
Mark Stuart: On the play of the Jets. The play of the team in the defensive zone. What has been the secret of the Jets success against St. Louis? On the Jets recent success. What has worked well with Nelson Nogier? As a veteran, what does it mean to close out the season this way?
Coach Maurice: On the span of 62 seconds that changed the game in the 2nd period. Getting five consecutive wins against the Blues. On Scheifele’s goal counting. On Scheifele getting to 80 points. On the play of Blake Wheeler. What does it mean when you have a player like Wheeler? On Stuart’s goal and what has he meant for Nelson Nogier?
