Game 76: Jets 5 Bruins 4 in SO post-game report

The Jets are now 47-19-10 as they end this six-game homestand with a 5-4 shootout win over the Bruins.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.

Notable:

1st:
– Brandon Tanev was persistent with a puck and deposited into the Bruins net to give the Jets a 1-0 lead;
– Assists to Copp and Lowry as the reassembled 4th line strikes early in this one;
– Shots were 9-9 after 20.

2nd:
– Another quick start as Brandon Tanev gets his second of the game to give the Jets a 2-1 lead;
– Assist to Adam Lowry;
– Joe Morrow then took a blast from the point to score his first as a Jets to make it 3-1;
– Assists to Scheifele and Wheeler;
– At the end of the period Mark Scheifele was leveled by a big hit and Josh Morrissey took a boarding penalty
– Shots were 12-11 for the Jets giving them an overall edge of 21-20 after 40 minutes

3rd:
– The Bruins scored during the five-minute man advantage, Jets challenged for offside;
– It was ruled a goal so it was a 3-2 game plus it meant Jets took a penalty giving Bs a 5 on 3;
– Bruins tied it up during the major penalty to Morrissey;
– Of course they weren’t anticipating that it was gonna be the Brandon Tanev show;
– Coming into tnt he had 6 goals in 109 games but he got his third of the night shorthanded to make it 4-3
– Bruins tied it up 4-4 with their third power play goal of the night.
– Excitement to the end but for fourth straight game headed to OT.

OT:
– Really exciting extra frame but again neither side could get it done;
– Best chance was Brad Marchand stealing a puck with 7.2 seconds left but Hellebuyck made the save.

Numbers:
– Brandon Tanev with his first ever hat trick and just his second game with multiple goals;
– Blake Wheeler picked up his 600th NHL point;
– Adam Lowry finished with two assists;
– Connor Hellebuyck improved to 40-11-9.
