Game 60: Jets vs Islanders pre-game report

The Jets were off on Saturday but that didn’t mean that they weren’t making some noise as they acquired winger Nino Niederreiter from the Preds for a 2024 2nd rounder. As per Sara Orlesky of the Jets the team hopes to have him in the lineup on Tuesday when they face the Kings. The team did announce that they had returned Axel Jonsson-Fjallby to the Moose.

There is also a question mark surrounding the status of David Gustafsson, who remains on IR, but shed his non-contact uniform this week. If he is ready to return that would necessitate a move since the Jets are currently at the 23-man roster limit. For now it seems reasonable to assume Sam Gagner will simply return to the lineup after being a healthy scratch on Friday.

Lastly, since Connor Hellebuyck was pulled after the 2nd period and given how important this game is to Winnipeg it seems reasonable that he will start the game.

Roster Update:

The team announced that they have recalled Axel Jonsson-Fjallby from the Moose and moved Nino Niederreiter to non-roster status. The newest Jets wasn’t expected to be in Winnipeg until tonight and earliest he would play according to Sara Orlesky was Tuesday against the Kings. Head coach Rick Bowness had said they had some banged up guys so this gives them more roster options.

Skate news:

No skate.

Warm-up news:

As per Ken Wiebe it is David Rittich leading the Jets out for warm-up skate. He also indicated that both Jonsson-Fjallby and Gagner are in and that Kuhlman isn’t out there.

Play-by-play voice Dan Robertson on the TSN broadcast said Karson Kuhlman is “not at his best today” which I would take to mean he is under the weather.

Jets projected lines & D pairs:

Connor-Scheifele-Appleton
Ehlers-Dubois-Wheeler
Barron-Lowry-Gagner
Maenalanen Stenlund Jonsson-Fjallby

Morrissey-DeMelo
Dillon-Pionk
Samberg-Schmidt

Rittich
Hellebuyck

Betway Odds:

The Islanders come into this game having lost their last contest 3-2 to the Kings although they are still a solid 5-3-2 in their last ten games. When looking at their road record you can see they prefer playing at UBS Arena because away from there they are a rather pedestrian 12-14-4.
