Game 44: Jets 7 Sabres 4 post-game report

The Jets are now 26-11-7 after 44 games on the season and sit 1st in the central division.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.

Notable:

– Patrik Laine scored his 19th of the season which was his 100th NHL point (55G 45A);
– Kyle Connor had two goals (14, 15) including a filthy one that was reminiscent of his AHL days (and an assist);
– Nikolaj Ehlers had two goals (18, 19) to tie Laine for team lead (12 of his goals are on the road);
– Blake Wheeler had two assists;
– Mathieu Perreault had two assists;
– Dustin Byfuglien has two goals this season, both scored in past week, both against Sabres;
– Former Sabre Joel Armia had the empty net dagger to put the game away;
– Blake Wheeler blocked a shot but luckily for Jets fans came back into the game.

Patrik Laine

Coach Maurice:  On Steve Mason earning the win.  Thoughts on his team’s effort.  On Blake Wheeler blocking that shot.  Skilled guys scoring.  What Copp/Matthias/Armia were able to do.  On the relationship between Laine and Ehlers.  On how much better Laine is to when he first broke into the league.  On the day off and then practice followed by back to back contest.  Status of Brandon Tanev.
