Quick Recap:
That was quite the game. After a scoreless 1st period the Flames took control and the Jets really never got into this game. Once again a poor 2nd frame saw the Jets give up four goals (one on the PP) bringing their season 2nd period goal differential to 43-20. That is not good. To start the 3rd period the Jets inserted Connor Hellebuyck for Michael Hutchinson, which is a bit unusual since expectations were that Hellebuyck would be starting in Edmonton the next day. Regardless he gave up a goal on his first shot of the last period before Nikolaj Ehlers made it 5-1 breaking a 15 game goalless streak. However the good feelings (if there were any left) ended quickly as Sean Monahan scored less than three minutes later. Jacob Trouba scored with 0.1 seconds to get his first of the year but overall a terrible performance by this Jets team.
Stats:
Player post-game audio:
Nikolaj Ehlers: On the 2nd period. On not seeing what they wanted from their club. Any sense of relief to get that goal?
Mark Scheifele: On the 2nd period. On the special teams. Helpful to play 24 hrs later? Thoughts on Edmonton. Able to put his finger on that game?
Coach post-game audio:
Paul Maurice: On the 2nd period. Couldn’t have envisioned that sort of effort? Feel bad for the goalies? Is his team tired? On the schedule. Good to play tomorrow?
