Recap:
The worst case scenario transpired for the Jets as they dropped the final game of this five game trip by a score of 5-1 to division rival Nashville. Aside from scoring the opening goal of the game, it wasn’t a pretty night for the Jets. Undisciplined play gave a hot Predators power play five opportunities, including a five minute major by Brandon Tanev. Nashville was able to score three times with the man advantage including a Mark Stuart own goal with two seconds remaining on that major when he inexplicably knocked a floating puck out of the air and past Connor Hellebuyck. Mark Scheifele took a bad penalty to start the 3rd (his line didn’t see the ice after that which happened just 34 seconds into the final frame).
Overall a terrible road trip for a Jets team that as you may recall had a very similar experience in November of 2015 when they went 0-4 on the road all against central division rivals.
Stats:
Player post-game audio:
Blake Wheeler: Putting that game into words. Was there a message from coach in the 3rd period? Describing the mood of the Jets team right now? The goal on the major being a killer. Nice to get home?
Coach post-game audio:
Paul Maurice: On the top line sitting in the 3rd. On Wheeler taking ownership. Major difference from first 20 minutes to last 40. Pulling the group out of this spin. Too much passing, looking for the “perfect play”. Was this the most discouraging game of the trip? Have mental breakdowns been a factor?
