Winnipeg made it more interesting then needed but they win their first game of the year with a 6-4 defeat of Florida
Notable:
Game number 200 for Mason Appleton in a Jets jersey (his 248th NHL game overall). Quite an accomplishment for the 2015 6th rounder. Speaking of games played Kyle Connor moves past his fellow Michiganite Andrew Copp into sole possession of 8th for the Jets with 468.
With it being the home opener they did the player introductions and at the same time we learned each of the goal songs the players had chosen for this season. Throwing it back to the 80s I am going with Alex Iafallo choice as my top pick. Since this was the first time since Connor Hellebuyck and Mark Scheifele had been seen by the fans since they signed their identical extensions both players (55 & 37) received huge cheers from the Winnipeg crowd as did Josh Morrissey (watch here) and Adam Lowry (watch here), who was introduced as captain for the first time at home in a regular season game.
Jets Dman Nate Schmidt was honoured for playing in NHL game 600. Pretty, pretty, pretty impressive for an undrafted player.
Gabe Vilardi has his first point as a member of the Jets as he picks up the secondary assist on the second goal for Winnipeg.
The Jets got contributions offensively from their fourth line courtesy of some good digging by Rasmus Kupari and finished off by Morgan Barron.
I know it’s only been two games but Mark Scheifele sure looks dialled in in all three zones.
Josh Morrissey deserved a secondary assist for handing Adam Lowry his stick off the bench to set up that shorthanded goal.
Multi Point Game:
Kyle Connor 2G 1A
Mark Scheifele 1G 1A
Mason Appleton 1G 1A
Josh Morrissey 2A
