The Jets looked like they would win their second consecutive game to start this four game road trip but they blew a two goal lead after 40 minutes including two goals in 26 seconds which saw the Leafs swoop in to sweep the Jets for the season series.  The loss drops the Jets to 7-4-1 on the season.  Luckily for Winnipeg both Nashville and Colorado lost today so the standings don’t change after this evening.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats here are the results from tonight’s game via Natural Stat Trick.

Notable:

– Kyle Connor scored his sixth goal of the season (PP goal);
– Mark Scheifele tied Connor for the team lead in goals;
– Blake Wheeler picked up his ninth assist in 12 games (six game point streak);
– Jacob Trouba hit Auston Matthews with a solid check which knocked the Leafs star out of the game;
– Two Leafs goals in 26 seconds flipped the switch with just 3:11 & 2:45 left in the game.

Coach Maurice:  On the conclusion to the game.  Did he like the physical side from the group?  On the way the game was going for the Jets.  On the Jets not putting the game away.  On moving Laine to a different line.  How does he get Laine going?  On Trouba’s hit on Matthews.  On the goal against Hellebuyck.  On the team rallying around Matthews leaving the game.
