Game 10: Jets 3 Canadiens 2 in OT post-game recap

Kyle Connor, finally. OT winner after what seemed like 4000 good opportunities.  Jets win 3-2 in OT, improving to 6-3-1 on the season.

For those who would like to take a deeper dive into the advanced stats click here to see the results from the game via Natural Stat Trick.

Notable:

Pierre-Luc Dubois was a force against his hometown team and he ripped home a shot on the power play to tie the game.

His line continued to contribute as Blake Wheeler scored the 299th goal of his NHL career to tie the game. It also gave him a temporary tie with Josh Morrissey for the team points lead.

It looked like Kyle Connor was gonna have to sacrifice a whole lotta chickens to snap his goalless streak and by the end of that game it might have required his torching an entire KFC but as what somewhat to be expected given how the game was going, he snapped out of it with the game-winner in OT. That tied him with Mark Scheifele for second most on the team with 34 GWG in his career. Blake Wheeler is in top spot with 36. Impressively Connor has played 258 fewer games than Scheifele and 418 fewer than Wheeler in a Jets jersey.

After looking like he was gonna win a Cy Young with six goals and no assists Mark Scheifele picked up his first of the campaign on the OT winner.

Random Connor Hellebuyck facts: He gave up the 1000th goal (and no. 1001) of his NHL career. Of course he’s also made 10908 saves in the 389 games he has worn a Jets jersey. Since he joined Winnipeg in 2015-16 no other NHL goalie has faced more shots (11,909).

It was the first win for Jets head coach Rick Bowness in just his second game coaching the team. As per our good friend Joe Pascussi “Jets 3-2 OT winners over the Canadiens. First win for Rick Bowness as Jets Head Coach since April 2, 1989. That was 33 years 7 months and 2 days ago when Jets beat North Stars 3-2.
