If you would have asked me earlier this season when the Manitoba Moose were mired in a 0-10-1 stretch if this team had any chance at making the playoffs I would have thought you were nuts. How could a team that was in the bottom of the entire AHL make the post-season?
By winning 20 of their last 32 games and two of those losses were in extra time to be precise so they earned themselves 42 points.
This team has just put it together. The lines have been consistent. The D pairs have been as well and they’ve gotten excellent goaltending from Jets 2023 5th rounder Thomas Milic who was recalled from the ECHL and has propelled this team forward.
Earlier this afternoon the Moose defeated the Wild 7-4 which eliminated Iowa from a chance to be in the playoffs and put Manitoba within one point of having their ticket punched. With the Wolves losing in regulation this evening to the Griffins it meant Chicago was also eliminated from the playoff picture.
However, the Moose still are on a quest for 4th place which is currently held by the Stars:
4. Texas 72 (2)
3. Manitoba 67 (4)
If they can make it to 4th it would give them home ice advantage in the best of three play and you’re in series.
Coincidentally these two teams end the season with a pair of games in Texas.
