Former Winnipeg Jets goalie Kaapo Kahkonen claimed off waivers by Colorado Avalanche

It was a move that back in July would not have been expected but based on the last week or so of Jets training camp it was becoming clear that Winnipeg was leaning towards keeping Eric Comrie as the backup for two-time Vezina winner Connor Hellebuyck rather than Kaapo Kahkonen. That ‘suspicion’ was confirmed when the NHL club of Winnipeg put Kahkonen on waivers on Thursday.

With the clock striking 1 PM CT this afternoon we have learned via Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet that he has been claimed by the Colorado Avalanche.

This means that the Moose will have a young goalie tandem in second-year pro Thomas Milic and first-year pro Domenic DiVincentiis to start the AHL season.
