It was a bit of a surprise that the Jets chose not to qualify Evgeny Svechnikov as the forward would have been an RFA at the conclusion of the 2021-22 season. He put up seven goals and 12 assists for 19 points in 72 games which were all career highs for the Wings 2015 1st rounder.
He originally signed an AHL deal with the Moose last August before having that bumped up to an NHL deal with the Jets in October after impressing in training camp.
It appeared he had good chemistry with his former junior teammate Pierre-Luc Dubois and Kyle Connor but he did also find himself dropped down or out of the lineup last season.
One area he really endeared himself to the fanbase in Winnipeg was during his Mic’d Up appearances for JetsTV. So much so that they did a second one with him and you can watch both here:
He will be heading to San Jose for the 2022-23 season after signing a one-year deal according to CapFriendly.
Might the Winnipeg product be set to play for his hometown team?
