During the dog days of summer many of us enjoy switching our focus from what’s happening on the ice to the many thousands of lakes around Manitoba and northwestern Ontario for some fishing. One former Jet has turned this passion into more than a hobby as Dustin Byfuglien, who remains one of the most beloved players to ever wear a Winnipeg Jets uniform can often be seen on a boat in his home state of Minnesota or occasionally in northwestern Ontario in Lake of the Woods.
He alongside his partner Mike Reid of Sioux Narrows finished 25th overall in the Kenora Bass Invitational. There were a total of 141 teams. Their large-mouth bass totals for the three days were 49.25 which put them 7.24 behind top spot on the leaderboard.
As you can hear from the crowd the big man continues to get lots of love from his hockey turned fishing fans although he made it clear the only time he hits the ice is to “chase my kids. That’s about it.”.
He wasn’t the only former NHLer in the tournament. Mike Richards, who is from Kenora, finished in third spot overall with his brother.
