It seemed like a foregone conclusion that Ontario product Jeff Malott would be signing with another organization after this season based on the emotional nature of his end of season media availability for the Moose this past April.
From our season recap:
For the third straight season he was over the 20 goal mark (22) and he set a new career high for assists (30) and points (52).
And the numbers probably should be a lot higher given his presence in front of the net to take away a goalies eyes. Countless teammates scored goals that likely do not beat the netminder without the big 6’5 frame of Malott screening in front.
He was a UFA and PuckPedia is reporting that he has a two-year deal with the Kings:
Year 1 775K NHL 1-way
Year 2 775K NHL, 425K Minors
After leaving college he signed with the Moose which he worked into an NHL deal with the Jets. He played his first and only NHL game on the road with the Jets in Chicago. He spent four seasons in Manitoba and was a big part of the culture that the Moose set as a high standard.
