Alberta product Nolan Baumgartner has become somewhat of a Manitoban as the 10th overall pick back in 1994 first came to Winnipeg as part of the Canucks organization playing for the Moose during the 2002-03 season. The defenceman would spend parts of seven seasons playing in the provincial capital during his time as a player which included 143 games in the NHL (mostly for Vancouver).
He transitioned to the bench during the 2012-13 season where he was an assistant coach for the Wolves. He then joined the Canucks farm club in Utica for the next four seasons before making the jump up to Vancouver as an assistant from 2017-18 to the 2021-22 seasons. Coincidentally his head coach in Utica and Vancouver was new Senators head coach Travis Green.
Baumgarter returned to Manitoba for the 2022-23 season where he joined the staff of Mark Morrison for this past season and last with a focus on the power play. They had the 4th best PP this season and 5th best in his first year in Manitoba.
He will now head east to re-join Travis Green as part of the Ottawa Senators coaching staff as per the Senators communication department.
