That didn’t take long. A day after being placed on waivers by Winnipeg for purposes of a buyout the former captain of the Jets Blake Wheeler has a new home as per Elliotte Friedman who is reporting he has signed with the New York Rangers. It had been reported by Friedman (via Wheeler’s agent) on Friday that the Minnesotan wanted to be in the Eastern Conference next season.
Wheeler had 16 goals and 39 assists for 55 points in 72 games. According to the Sportsnet broadcast it’s a one-year deal for 800K.
He will be reunited with Jacob Trouba. Who has Jacob Trouba being Blake Wheeler’s captain on their bingo card?
Update:
I was curious as to when the former captain might be returning to Winnipeg and after perusing the schedule I think the NHL schedule maker deserves a bonus how October will play out in Winnipeg:
Game 2 vs Fla (Maurice/now Stenlund)
Game 3 vs LA (PLD/now David Rittich)
Game 4 vs foe Vegas (Playoff foe)
And final game of month will be the return of Blake Wheeler with NYR!
