Todd Bertuzzi is returning to a Canadian club, signing a one-year contract with the Calgary Flames.
Bertuzzi scored 14 goals and 26 assists in 68 games with a plus-8 rating last season with Anaheim. He rebounded after a 2006-07 season marred by injury but was placed on waivers by the Ducks on June 26 due to financial constraints.

I really like this signing. In fact, I hinted to my friend Hari ( a big Calgary Flames fan) a few weeks ago that I thought the Flames should pursue “Bert” after he was dropped by the Anaheim Ducks. Listen, Bertuzzi is not the 97-point power forward that he was back in 2002’03 with the Vancouver Canucks but he still has a lot of good hockey left in him. Ponder this for a second: why would the Anaheim Ducks and Detroit Red Wings, two very good hockey teams, trade for his services over the last two years? Because they believed he could refresh his career with the right linemates and provide goal scoring/toughness. Although it is true that Bertuzzi has been disturbed by the whole Steve Moore/Colorado Avalanche/Marc Crawford incident, he may have found the perfect environment in CowTown. Flames fans will embrace Bertuzzi because he will give 110% every night and look to get his career back on track.
