For years there’s been speculation the Finnish centreman was Calgary-bound. The talk started long before Mike Keenan moved behind the Flames bench and certainly picked up steam afterwards, the veteran coach and Jokinen having enjoyed a solid relationship during their days together in South Florida.

Well, if it’s ever going to happen, this coming week might be the time. The National Hockey League draft is on the docket next weekend in Ottawa and the annual gathering of team poobahs is often the scene of the first major transactions of the summer.

The Flames will have some heavy competition for the services of Jokinen. I can see the Wild offering up a package including Pierre-Marc Bouchard, and a bunch of other teams will surely be in the fray. If the Flames do get their man, they are going to have to give up quite a fair number of assets; never mind, their cap situation. It should be an interesting summer for GM Darryl Sutter.
