To say this has been a strange season for Eric Comrie would be a massive understatement. Comrie was originally put on waivers by the Jets back on September 29th. Since that time it has been a whirlwind of a season which unfortunately for the 24-year-old has meant not that much actual hockey (three NHL games with the Wings and four AHL games with Tuscon during a conditioning stint).
To date:
Sept 30th: Jets place Comrie on waivers
Oct 1st: Coyotes claim him
Nov 9th: Conditioning stint in Tucson
Nov 22nd: Recalled from Tucson
Nov 30th: Traded to the Red Wings
Dec 10th: First NHL game this season vs Jets
Dec 18th: Wings place him on waivers
Dec 19th: Jets claim him off waivers
Dec 28th: Jets place him on waivers
Dec 29th: Clears waivers, assigned to Moose.
Comrie’s presence will be a massive boost for the Moose both the net and in the dressing room. Here is how Manitoba bench boss described things when Comrie was claimed the first time this season:
“When we found out as a team, and just to tell you the impact he’s had on our team, it was almost like you knocked them out and it took some time for us to recover from that.”
While some might think this will detract from Mikhail Berdin the fact is the second year goalie is seeing too much ice right now. While he may want to play every single game it probably isn’t advisable for his development.
It also provides much needed organizational depth. If someone from the Jets goes down with an injury it doesn’t leave your AHL club without a top netminder.
