Alberta product Tyrel Bauer just concluded his second season in the AHL as the big, right-shot Dman continued to have an impact in Manitoba on and off the ice.
Right from training camp with the Jets he made an impression with Winnipeg head coach (at the time) Rick Bowness commenting about a pre-season tilt that Bauer got into saying “Pretty impressive by the kid switching hands like that. Haven’t seen that for awhile.”.
That pugilistic theme continued as his physical game led to a few tilts (here, here, here and here). But it wasn’t all about fights as he continued to develop his defensive game as he strives to get to the next level.
He matched his goals and assists totals from his rookie season but did play a career high 56 games for the Moose.
We chatted with him at the end of season media availability about his second year as a pro, turning things around from a rough losing streak to a playoff team, the play of his long-time teammate Thomas Milic, the help from his D partner Ashton Sautner, was he able to achieve his goals/biggest area of growth in his game and becoming more familiar with this province.
