Elliotte Friedman reporting Winnipeg Jets and Kyle Connor have made progress on a long-term extension

Folks in Winnipeg have been waiting for news to drop about the Jets and Kyle Connor extending their relationship on a long-term basis. Neither Connor or GM Kevin Cheveldayoff would get into it when they were asked about it during training camp, the reports indicated that both sides were looking to get something done before the season began.

Just three weeks ago co-owner Mark Chipman was rather emphatic when he was asked if he envisioned any problem on getting a long-term deal done.

“No. I don’t. I don’t. Kyle’s been a Winnipeg Jet for a long time. I expect he will be for a long time. He’s one of us.”.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman was in Winnipeg today and he indicated via Twitter that:

“Hearing Jets and Kyle Connor have made progress on a long-term extension. Team opens Thursday and everyone working to close it beforehand.”

He didn’t have the specific term but he expects the AAV to be:

“Expecting AAV will be in the 12s”.

Guess we will wait and see what Wednesday brings.
