The Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club is proud to announce that defenceman Dustin Byfuglien has been named the team’s nominee for the Bill Masterton Trophy, awarded annually by the National Hockey League.
The trophy is awarded to an NHL player who best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to hockey. The winner of the trophy is selected by all members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association (PHWA) after the regular season. Byfuglien was nominated by the PHWA Chapter of Winnipeg.
Byfuglien, 31 is playing in his 11th NHL season and sixth with the Winnipeg Jets. In his career, he has played 671 NHL games, amassing 389 points (150G, 239A) and 778 penalty minutes. Byfuglien sits seventh all-time on the Jets’ franchise points list with 280 (95G, 185A) in 411 games.
This season, Byfuglien leads the Jets in average ice time (24:59), hits (200), takeaways (65), and is tied for the team lead in power play points (16). He sits fifth in the league among all defenceman with 17 goals, and is the 13th top defenceman with 45 total points.
The Roseau, MN-native has been named to the NHL All-Star Game in each of the last four seasons that the game has taken place (2011, 2012, 2015 and 2016). He was also recently named to Team USA for the World Cup of Hockey, which will take place in September.
