Jets fans have been up in arms since it was revealed late last night that Jacob Trouba would have a hearing for his hit on Ottawa’s Mark Stone. In case you missed it here it was:
They are up in arms not because they don’t feel that Trouba’s hit merited a conversation with the Department of Player Safety but because Evgeni Malkin of the Penguins had what many saw as a more predatory hit on Jets captain Blake Wheeler which went completely unpunished. Ted Wyman of the Winnipeg Sun wrote an article about why the league sees them as two different types of hits.
And the final number that the Department of Player Safety handed down to Trouba was a two game suspension. What do you think? Here is their rational.
Department said the “onus here is on Trouba to deliver a full body hit through his opponent’s core. Instead Trouba takes a poor angle of approach, picking Stone’s head and making it the main point of contact on a forceful hit.”
