Playing in Winnipeg for Jets 2018 5th rounder Declan Chisholm isn’t an unusual occurrence. He’s played in Canada Life wearing antlers for the Manitoba Moose for plenty of AHL games.
Tomorrow however he will be wearing a Winnipeg Jets jersey for the first time in a regular season home game as confirmed by head coach Rick Bowness today following practice with veteran Nate Schmidt coming out.
It comes 23 months after he made his NHL debut for the Jets in Detroit (same night that Dylan Samberg made his NHL debut) and he would get one more road game that January in St. Louis.
This year with the reality of waivers the team has kept him as the 7th/8th defenceman up with the big club other than for six games he spent with Manitoba this season on a conditioning assignment from November 12th until the 24th. He picked up five assists during this recent stint in the AHL.
He even got some second unit power play time today in practice.
Should be a good opportunity for him to gain some confidence against a young Hawks team.
He spoke after practice today:
