Day 6 of Winnipeg Jets training camp report

After a day off on Monday the Jets hit the ice at hockey for all centre as they prepare to face the Oilers tomorrow night.

First Cuts:

The younger group was scheduled to be on the ice first but they were reduced as Winnipeg made their first cuts of training camp reducing their roster by 12 players going from 53 to 41 (although one of those remaining is Ville Heinola who is out due to an infection in his ankle). Five prospects were returned to their junior clubs while seven guys will get set for Moose training camp which gets underway next week.

All eyes on Cole Perfetti:

The Jets first rounder from 2020 signed his new two-year contract with Winnipeg last night and Cole Perfetti was on the ice with his teammates this morning. We will be speaking with him after skate so stay tuned to hear from him.

Power Play:

Winger Nikolaj Ehlers was working on PP1 today as the team worked on special teams on this side of the rink during training camp. PP1: Scheifele, Connor, Vilardi, Morrissey and the aforementioned Ehlers.

Brayden Yager turning heads:

The Jets other 2023 1st rounder in the fold is catching my eye quite a bit on the ice. Brayden Yager has shown lots of confidence on the ice as he goes up against NHLers. While I don’t think he makes the team for this season, he looks like he will be quite the player for Winnipeg. Have noticed him building bonds on the ice with guys like Mark Scheifele and Gabriel Vilardi as they work with him one-on-one.
