Darren Dreger: Winnipeg Jets and Adam Lowry getting closer to contract extension

Back in mid-September, Jets captain Adam Lowry was asked about his contract status, but he didn’t have an update to provide at that time. About a month later, Darren Dreger of TSN reported that preliminary contract talks were underway.

It’s been another month since that update from Dreger. My expectation was that the team would announce a new deal before Lowry played his first game — an assumption proven wrong when he suited up last night in Los Angeles.

However, it appears a deal may be close. Dreger, speaking on TSN’s Insider Trading segment last night, indicated:

“It’s also been a priority for a long, long time by the organization to get Lowry locked up longer term. Now, we know that once Kyle Connor extended with the Winnipeg Jets last month, the contract focus very quickly shifted over to Adam Lowry. Both the team and the player are super motivated to get something done. It’s not quite there yet, but it’s getting closer — and having him back on the ice, though, is a big step in that direction.”

You’d have to think the sticking point might be term for the 32-year-old centre, who underwent offseason hip surgery.
