With the hockey world on pause on the ice, off of it there is still business being conducted. Teams are signing college players and some folks were wondering if there would be news on the Jets and Dustin Byfuglien reaching the mutual termination of contract that had been previously discussed.
Tonight on Insider Trading hockey insider Darren Dreger had this to say about the situation:
It is nearing an end James but obviously given current events it’s not top priority for all involved. What I know is that the National Hockey League is scheduled to discuss the situation with the Winnipeg Jets in the very near future. Now the Players Association, the league, the player and the Winnipeg Jets are all aligned on the termination agreement but it hasn’t been executed yet and because of that the Winnipeg Jets aren’t in a position to announce but the detail work between the league and the Winnipeg Jets is expected to be ironed out in the near future.

It was back on February 3rd that it was reported that both parties were working towards a mutual termination of the contract. We heard later that month that the Jets were looking for a trade partner but that obviously didn’t pan out. With current events it has been quiet on the Byfuglien front but perhaps that will soon change. Stay tuned.
