Just a week ago Nikolaj Ehlers was discussing his recovery with Sara Orlesky of the Jets and the following day he was hitting the ice for a skate. His timetable for a return to the lineup was estimated at 6-8 weeks after having surgery back on November 23rd.
Three days later the Jets infirmary grew to six players with the additions of Blake Wheeler and Nate Schmidt and head coach Rick Bowness advised that “….we don’t expect anyone coming back in the next three weeks at all. Three to four weeks.”.
Despite these losses the team continues to chug along sitting 2nd in the Central (1st if you use points %) and 3rd overall in the Western Conference as they continue to get contributions from guys who have been recalled or claimed off waivers.
However, the addition of 2014 first rounder Nikolaj Ehlers would be a big boost to either the Perfetti/Scheifele line or the Connor/Dubois line.
Darren Dreger was asked by James Duthie on TSN’s Insider Trading about key players who are coming back to Canadian teams soon. Dreger discussed Morgan Rielly and Nikolaj Ehlers.
“Nikolaj Ehlers of the Winnipeg Jets has been light skating of late as well. What a rash of injuries the Winnipeg Jets have had to deal with. They continue to do well, they’re certainly treading water and staying afloat in that Central Divison but Ehlers will be a welcome back addition in the next two to three weeks.”
That’s good news for the player and club given Ehlers was projected as a top line winger for Winnipeg but has been limited to just two games this season.
