Every other sentence you will hear coming from a hockey player’s, coach’s or manager’s mouth this time of year is a cliche.

Here are just a few I’ve heard:

  • “The series doesn’t start until someone loses at home”
  • “Game 3 is the most important game”
  • “We just need to continue to stick to the system”
  • “They have great fans and their arena is really loud”
  • “You can’t win in the playoffs without goaltending”
  • “Special teams are very important this time of year”
  • “That’s just playoff hockey”

Those are just a few off the top of my head.  I am pretty sure I’ve heard each of those about a thousand times since Wednesday.  Add in the best cliches not included in the comments if you so desire.
