Chicago signs Brian Campbell to eight-year deal worth $56.8 million

Courtesy of tsn.ca:

” The most sought-after defenceman this summer has been snapped up, as free agent Brian Campbell has agreed to an eight-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks worth $7.1 million a season.”

This shouldn’t be a big surprise as the Blackhawks have been interested in Campbell for weeks now. The fact that this long term contract is worth $56.8 million over eight years may seem a little excessive to some, but in reality, Chicago ensures that they have a No.1 power play quarterback locked up to work with young uber-stars Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews. The high contract figure is simply the price of doing business and for Campbell, business is good.
