Winnipeg Jets

Note: The Jets took on the Flyers on Sunday afternoon and rolled to a big 7-3 victory to improve to 20-11-2 on the season. Part of the reason for their success in the game was power play goals including scoring a pair during a five-minute major after Mathieu Perreault was knocked from the game. Coach Maurice didn't have a substantial update on his veteran forward following the contest but did indicate that he expects to be able to provide an update today. The Jets will practice at 11 AM at Bell MTS Place as they get ready to face the Hurricanes here tomorrow night. Be sure to check back for our Practice Report for the latest news and audio. Update: Perreault is in concussion protocol. Note II: The Moose spent Sunday travelling from Texas to Colorado as their five-game road trip continues down south. They will practice today as they get ready to face the Eagles tomorrow night. Jets news: The Athletic Winnipeg: Why Jets forward Andrew Copp pursued hockey over football. (Paywall). Michigan guys have football in their blood. Especially when you grow up in Ann Arbor. Winnipeg Sun: Jets crush Flyers after four-goal second-period explosion. Scott recaps the game and also looks at Pionk shining, the return of Kevin Hayes and Logan Shaw getting the monkey off his back. Photo Credit: Colby Spence Winnipeg Sun: Full-of-fun Jets enjoying themselves in a different way this season. I made this point a few weeks or a month back on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show that this team just seems to be enjoying themselves a lot more this season. And while that could be attributed to winning it just seems like there is a different mentality this season. Winnipeg Free Press: Explosive second period gives Jets 7-3 victory over Flyers. (Paywall). It looked like it was going to be even and if not for some Connor Hellebuyck's heroics in the opening frame the Jets could have found themselves actually behind the eight ball. Instead they used a major to cruise to victory and Mike provides his thoughts on the contest. Winnipeg Free Press: Big-league goal a boost for Shaw. (Paywall). I found his post-game comments insightful for those who are sent down to the AHL. He spent the entirety of the 2018-19 season with the Moose and rather than complain he scored 27 goals in 63 games and put himself in line to be recalled. He spoke about the confidence that he gained being in the AHL. Philadelphia Inquirer: Battered Flyers lose to Jets, 7-3, after Joel Farabee’s penalty leads to two goals and breaks open close game. If you' like to read about the game from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opposition check out this column. NHL.com: Jets score seven in win against Flyers. And four of those goals came in 4:17 of the 2nd period which blew open the game. NHL.com: Shaw scores first goal since 2018, helps Jets beat Flyers. After the game Shaw said in his scrum "Where I'm from it's just about working hard and keep going in the right direction. It felt really good tonight to score. I know it was the fifth goal. But for me individually it was a little weight off my shoulders". And based on the reaction from his teammates it was clear they were happy for him to get his first as a member of this Jets team. Jets video: TSN: Jets explode for four goals in second to dominate Flyers in bounce back win. The Jets rebounded from an embarrassing loss to the Red Wings by thrashing the Flyers, getting goals from seven different players. Dennis Beyak and Kevin Sawyer break down the victory. TSN: Farabee will be 'called to the carpet' for 'terrible' hit on Perreault. Joel Farabee's late hit on Mathieu Perreault late in the second period, which resulted in a five-minute major and a game misconduct, sparked the Jets to a four-goal frame. TSN Hockey analyst Jamie McLennan weighs in with his thoughts on the hit and what he can expect in terms of further discipline.
